Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of depression in chronic arthritis patients.
The subjects were 132 chronic arthritis patients at 2 university hospitals in Daegu city.
The instrument was consisted of CES-D scale by Radloff(1977).¡¡ Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test with SPSS Win 10 program.
The major results were as follow
1) The mean degree or depression in chronic arthritis patients was 2.16, ranging between 1.05-3.05.
2) There were significant differences in the degree of depression between the educational status in chronic arthritis patient, patients without formal education revealed to be more depressive(F=2.818, p=0.028).
This study showed that the uneducated group was more depressive than the middle school group in chronic arthritis patients.
It is recommanded to develop nursing intervension to decrease degree of depression in chronic arthritis patients, especially by educational level.
